Place one half custom adjustable bed on its side on top of platform. Note the Hinge point is 30 inches from headboard.
Adjustable bed is placed lengthwise. Note that the window valence is not projecting over the platform bed. This allows us to maximize the width of the adjustable bed. We still have to provide for 1.5 inch air-gap from the sides of the tabled to avoid grazing the tables when the adjustable bed is raised from the back.
The adjustable bed is now placed where the external frame has been cut at the piano hinge location so that the lower external frame can be screwed onto platform and raised to access the storage area normally.
The two beds have been screwed onto the platform. Note that there is about a one-inch air-gap between the bed frames so they do not rub against each other in the center and there is “wiggle-room” for the installation. Also note the air gap between the side of the adjustable bed and the side table to avoid grazing the tables when the back of the bed is raised.
We tested the right adjustable bed by raising the back section.
We moved aside the slats to so we could place the two transformers and white wires under the slats where the mid-section of the beds is not raised. Note that the side stoppers are over 1.5 inches away from the side table.
We zip tied the two transformers so they would not slid around and attached one of the transformer power cables to the motor (see green color connector that is connected to the lower section of the motor).
We snaked over the white transformer power cable over the center (not moving) section of the beds to provide power to the other motor for the left adjustable bed.
We used the power outlet on the right side of the bed to connect an extension cord(with two outlets) to provide power to the two transformers. Since the sliding mechanism moves the bed frame towards the cabinets at the foot, we left a generous length of white extension cord to move up and down with the sliding mechanism.
To gain access to the L-shape brackets that are screwed to attach the adjustable beds to the platform, we lifted the lower adjustable sections. Note that each bed has two black feet with cups at the ends that need to be placed back on the long black rods at the foot of the bed when the foot sections are rotated back in their flat positions. If they are not placed correctly, the lower section will not operate properly.
Note the locations of the L-shape brackets that are to secure the adjustable beds to the platform which is lifted up to access the storage area.
We cut off the very edge of the frame that was projecting out of the curved platform to prevent it from injuring the shins.
Did the same (as above) by cutting the projecting edge for the left frame.
Attached the side and foot stoppers. Note that the foot stoppers can be screwed on to project 1-3 inches from the end of the platform to secure the desired final location of the mattress.
When the bed frame is slid inwards, the mattress is about 3/4 inch above the underside of the table top. So one has to press down on the bottom of the mattress (after sliding the adjustable bed inwards) to achieve this clean look.
This video shows the sliding motion of the adjustable bed as it is moved outwards. The mattress has to be pressed down to slid under the table top and cabinet.
FINALLY! The first experience laying on the mattresses!
The beds are raised slightly up at the back.
On-wards to enjoy the Great Outdoors. Next stop is Alaska!
