Axel Bloom RV Adjustable Bed for 2008 Monaco Diplomat 36PDQ

Nickname  – “Mrs. Bullwinkle”

RV Adjustable bed: Custom Queen Doppelflex MX2

Two independently operated 2 – motor custom Half-Queen Adjustable system ( 28.5 X 79 inch) screwed on platform in four places with L-shape brackets. Cut external frame 2 inches from the back so that platform can continue to be lifted from the bottom to access storage compartment. Hinge is at the end of the platform but backed off 2 inches so the end of the adjustable frame will not scrape the back of platform when raised.

Both adjustable systems are in the “Default mode” where the head section raises initially up to 45 degree angle before the lumbar (back) section then raises to a 65 degree angle.

RV Mattress model: DW 800 Medium Firm (to comfy) Mattress. Two Custom Half Queen (29 X 80 inch) mattresses.

RV Model:Monaco Diplomat

Location: From Livingston, Texas (Full-time RVers)

“We’ve had Sleep Number beds for over twenty-five years so when we bought the RV, we decided to get a Sleep Number mattress to replace the Hard as Rock RV Mattress. The Sleep Number mattress was much better, but the queen size mattress was not as nice as the king-size mattress. One of my favorite features of the home mattress was the adjustable bed base with the wireless remote. The zero-gravity position was like heaven and made it much more comfortable to watch TV in bed. Unfortunately Sleep Number doesn’t make an adjustable bed base that would fit our RV.

During my research I found Axelbloom who made a truly flat adjustable bed made for platform beds and it was only 4 inches thick, perfect for an RV. Unfortunately after several phone call and emails with Yong Lee we determined that the bed in the RV wasn’t a candidate because when the slide came in the mattress slid under the closet and there was only 8 inches of space available. This was in 2017.

At the end of 2020 we found our dream coach, a 2008 Monaco Diplomat 36PDQ and gave our old coach to our son. It came with a queen size Serta SleepToGo 12″ Gel Memory Foam Mattress. I’m not a big fan of memory foam mattress, but thought I would give it a try since it had good reviews. That didn’t last long and I was back on the phone with Yong Lee.

We had several conversation on the phone and many emails confirming the measurements, Yong found a mistake I made in the length and corrected it and the deal was done. The biggest problem we had was shipping, since we are full time RVers timing was critical. We were all surprised when a 45’ semi-truck pulled in the campground parking lot. A friend offered the use of their pickup truck to get the four boxes to the site and even took our old mattress off our hands.

I opened the boxes outside and my wife and daughter carried the four pieces into the RV. It wasn’t long till the bed was setup and ready to test. It’s been almost two months since we got the bed and we have nothing but praise for it. The mattresses are amazing, we both love them and find them extremely comfortable. The adjustable frame has turned our bed into a media room with certainly the best seats in the rig. In fact as I write this our daughter is in the “media room” watching her shows. We don’t plan on getting another coach, but if we do the bed is going with us.

The only issue we’ve had is several days ago my wife bent the foot stopper and when I tried to straighten it, it broke, right on the hole where the screws go in.” (We sent them a replacement)

All done!

Both adjustable beds placed on platform. The blue tape is to show where the foot and side stoppers should be installed.

Peyton, the daughter, just about to remove the two slats and rubber holster to locate the two small holes that have been made on the inside of the adjustable frame so the side stopper can be installed.

Peyton has removed the slats to screw in the side stopper where the blue tape is located.

Completing the job. There are two side stoppers per each adjustable: one at the foot area, the other beside the head area. The foot stopper is screwed on top of the wooden foot section. The foot stopper final location should be determined by bringing in the slider, placing the mattress on the adjustable bed and then screwing on the foot stopper so the mattress/foot stopper does not graze the cabinet.

The mattress held in place by the foot and side stopper.

The left adjustable lifted at the back and knee.

A very comfortable teddy bear!
