Dear Yong,
Judi and I enjoy RVing and we really enjoy traveling with our 2019 27’ Tommy Bahama Airstream to beautiful locations like our state and national parks. When we retire we plan on spending more time in our Airstream traveling around the country for months at a time.
One thing we really miss when traveling is our adjustable bed that we have at home. With my snoring and my wife’s silent acid reflex we needed to have a way to elevate our heads when we sleep. Airstream has only one adjustable bed option. Their bed elevates the head only, not the feet and it doesn’t allow for individual, independent mattress controls.
So we searched the internet and found Axel Bloom. Having an Airstream that has limited space and weight constraints, the Axel Bloom system works very well. It fit our short queen bed platform perfectly and was easy to install. Working with Yong has been wonderful, through every step of the process from ordering the specific bed to fit our needs to the delivery of the bed and installation. Yong was communicating with us every step of the way. Making sure we understood exactly what to do and making sure that everything worked properly down to the smallest detail. We recommend the Axel Bloom bed system to everyone especially people with Airstreams. Thank you Yong for all your help.
Thank you,
Paul and Judi
Dear Paul and Judi,
It has been a pleasure working with you! Thank you for sharing your installation photos! You were very detailed and it shows in the installation. This is the first Airstream we have featured. It is an iconic American product and I am so happy you chose our adjustable beds!

RV Adjustable bed: Custom Doppelflex MX2
Two 2 – motor custom Adjustable systems (each 27.5 X 74.5 inch) . Independently adjustable systems with 10 double slats to firm up or soften the lumbar region. Piano hinge to lift platform to access storage is 23 inches from the headboard. To continue to access the storage compartment, cut the external frame 24 inches from the foot of the adjustable bed. The upper 47.5 inches of the external frame is screwed on the fixed upper platform with four L-shape brackets for each adjustable bed that are pre – installed. This allows the lower platform to be lifted up, as per normal, to access the storage area, without the whole adjustable bed being lifted off the platform.

The Beginning!
Paul removed the slats for easier access to screw down the adjustable bed and place the transformer cables. He placed the white transformer box just above the seated area where there is enough space between the back support slats and the platform.
This is the left corner of the platform where he shows how he located and secured, using the supplied L-shape bracket, the adjustable frame.
Both adjustable beds are secured. Note that there is sufficient room to extend the adjustable frame over the end of the platform so the mattress can be made longer than the platform.
Another view showing the side and foot stoppers to ensure the mattresses will not slide off. Also note the air gaps between the side stoppers and the side tables to avoid grazing one another when the adjustable bed is raised from the back. Also the airgap between the frames so they do not rub against each other and provide wiggle room for installation.
This photo shows where we had cut the back of the external frame 24 inches to allow the platform to be lifted without lifting the whole adjustable bed frame. The piano hinge is located 23 inches from the headboard and so this cutback is vital to allow normal access to the storage compartment. See below.
Normal access to storage by lifting the platform. No need to change struts. Adjustable bed and mattress weigh approximately 240 pounds.
Neatly snaked one transformer cable to this location and placed the cable at the back of the frame such that it was not pinned down and squashed under the adjustable frame.
This is the second outlet for powering the second transformer. Same technique to avoid squashing the cable by snaking it around the back of the adjustable frame back to the motor which is located in the center of the frame. Long enough cable.
Paul’s head is just below the cabinets. Could not have planned it better. The profile of the adjustable is 5 inches deep with the motor integrated into the frame. The mattress is approximately 7.5 inches so the total depth is 12.5 inches – a soft thickness as the mattress cover is soft and luxurious one inch thick.
Same angle for the photo but this time with the bed covers and pillows.
Beautiful shot of the bed made-up with the bed cover. Would not know of the lurking German bed under it!
What an amazing view of a wonderful and classy American tradition with the proud owners!
