RV Adjustable bed synchronized to work together: Custom Doppelflex MX2

Two 2 – motor custom Adjustable systems (each 34.5 X 77 inch) . Two half adjustable systems that are synchronized to move together with one piece mattress. Each with 8 double slats to firm up or soften the lumbar region. Piano hinge to lift platform to access storage is 2.25 inches from the headboard. To continue to access the storage compartment, cut the external frame 6 inches ( 4 inches would have been OK but to be safe, we increased that space) from the head of the adjustable bed. The lower 71 inches of the external frame is screwed on the lower platform with four L-shape brackets for each adjustable bed that are pre – installed. This allows the lower platform to be lifted up, as per normal, to access the storage area, without the whole adjustable bed being lifted off the platform.

Steve was meticulous in measuring his platform dimensions. Below are his photos that he sent for both of us to custom make his adjustable beds and mattresses. He then met us in Los Angeles for us to install the system. The vast majority of our customers install themselves and it takes them about 3 hours. Steve lived near enough and came in the morning. We were done in 2 hours and he and Sherie drove home. Although this is rare, it is very enjoyable to meet customers and share our life stories.

Note the foot section overlaps the frame beneath it. Also the presence of side tables that we made sure not to touch when the back of the adjustable bed is raised.

Headboard sticks out 1.25 inches at the bottom and middle. This stops the adjustable frame from being placed all the way back. Thus we shorten the length of the platform that is available for us to rest our adjustable bed by 1.2 5 inches.

The headboard sticks out about 1 ¼” at the bottom and middle, so the middle of the piano hinge is 2 ¼” from the headboard. With this measurement, we determined how much we would cut the back of our adjustable external frame (conservatively 6 inches) so it would not prevent the platform and adjustable frame from being lifted up.

The length of the platform is 79 inches but as the headboard was about 2 inches, we made the adjustable frame 77 inches in length.

We started by placing one section to get a sense of the positioning.

Then placed the second section and removed the slats so we could connect the transformer cables and snake them through a hole on the platform into the storage compartment below.

Before screwing down the lower half of the external frame on the platform, we made sure the left and right sides of the frame cleared the side tables.

This view shows the air gap clearance after we installed the side stoppers. Again, sufficient air gap so that the back will not graze the side table.

Installed the foot stoppers. Note that there are three screw holes so we could have moved the stopper further down if the top of the mattress rubbed against the headboard when the back is raised.

We snaked through the 2 transformer cables into the storage area and used the outlets in that location from the previous Sleep Number mattress for 120 V power

The platform can be raised normally. Same struts.

Both frames are secured. Note that the ends of the external frame are at the bottom of the platform and the sides rest on the edge of the platform.

Here, the back is raised all the way with the head and the lumbar sections in the max position. With mattress on, it would be almost a right angle. The foot is not raised in this picture.
