Yong,
We’re really looking forward to trying out the beds but we can tell you that it will be much better than what we’ve been dealing with.
Here are some photos of our installation plus a picture of us in front of our motor home. Again, thank you for all your help.
Dennis and Debbie Kawaguchi
Dennis was meticulous in measuring the dimensions and preparing for the RV adjustable bed installation. Perhaps reflects his years marketing Tandem fault-tolerant computers and being raised on a farm!
RV Adjustable Bed: Custom King Doppelflex MX2 TWO-MOTOR ADJUSTABLE SYSTEM (35″ x 78.0″ – Custom RV Dimensions). To lift platform for storage access, cut back external frame 31.5 inches. (Platform hinge location is 31 inches from headboard). Cut 5 inches from foot of external frame. Add extension 3-4 inches to head section to offset 5 inch cut at foot section. This results in 48-49 inch section of the lower external frame available to be screwed onto platform using four L-shape brackets for each adjustable bed. This platform (with the adjustable beds and mattresses) can then be raised normally to access the storage area.
Mattress Model: Dreamwave DW 800 (medium-firm,to the comfy) Two custom mattresses, each 35 X 78 inches.
RV Model: 2019 Tiffin Allegro Bus 45OPP
Customer Location: Kaysville, Utah
We had the benefit of another customer installation which was very similar to his RV. Like Dennis’ Tiffin, this Tiffin had a back section that raised up. We had to make sure our back section raised at the same angle.
Both beds placed on the platform frame to decide the final position of both the beds before screwing them on the platform.
You can see on the right side how we were able to make the width of the bed frame such that the side stopper of the head section would not graze the side table when the back is raised. To make the raised angle of the back of the adjustable bed the same as the Tiffin raised back, we scooted the bed about 5 inches down and cut the foot section section by 5 inches. We then made up the length by adding a custom head section at the top of head.
Dennis decided to place each transformer (white brick) under the slats in the lumbar region as he located a convenient outlet that allowed him to snake the cables around the adjustable beds without having to make holes in the platform. The black box is the wireless receiver and controller which also has a USB port for charging etc.
The existing Tiffin bed had head and foot stoppers which were welded on the frame. The foot stoppers were too low to stop our mattresses but being welded, they were left in place. You can see our stopper height was required for the mattresses in the background.
VIDEO of the motion of the back of the adjustable bed. Note that the side stopper had ample room from the window valence to avoid grazing it. We consciously allow 1.5 inch air gap when designing the custom adjustable bed with the customer. Even with that space, when the mattress is placed on the bed, you can see from the photos below that the mattress cover expands to fill empty space.
Finally, the beds are complete! Dennis did not need to lift up the platform to access storage like many other RVs as his bed frame has built-in drawers.
Shows how high the backs can be raised but still not graze the ceiling of the bed enclosure.
